Can some one with a block or bullet of "certified" 16:1 lead tin alloy tell me what the Cabine Tree lead hardness tester should read on the dial? My home made mix is showing a softer ratio. Also is a Brinell value of 11 correct for this?
thanks

KW,

I can't tell you what the Cabin Tree hardness tester should read but my cast bullet alloy calculator says 16:1 has a Brinell hardness value of 10.53. I hope that helps.

Approximately . 070 plus or minus a couple thousands.

Make sure the rod between the sample and dial indicator is lubed if it's an older unit.

Chart is still on castingstuff.com

Just rec'd this new tester, so of course questions:
That chart does not specifically show 16:1, only shows values for 10, 20 and 25:1. A .070" dial travel puts it in the 20:1 range? Four more thou. travel and you are at 10:1........room for interpretation since its so sensitive.

Texas Mac thanks for the Brinell value

It should repeat on the same alloy. That is the key. If your alloy is reading . 070 and it's working for you, make your next alloy . 070.

This was never a industrial grade instrument. It's relative, but, it WILL repeat which is the key.
