1874 Military 50-70

On the same page. Right now my 1863 sporting is being built as yours (PB, Casehardened, Saddle bar) hoping to get it soon and will post pictures. And one year ago I placed an order for a Hartford in 40-50 BN because it is cute, original, and easy to load.

Would anyone have a picture of the 1874 military carbine with a shotgun stock that they could post? I am in the comtemplation stage of getting up my own .50-70 order and was would like to see how it looks.

I just received my 1874 carbine a few weeks ago in 50-70, military style buttplate. Is that what you mean by shotgun? There's no shotgun option on the order page.

Hmmm...ok, thank you, I must have gotten something mixed up. I think maybe I was thinking that a stock with the traditional steel buttplate option would look different from the military buttplate stock.

There is, in fact, a shotgun butt option, both in the drop down menu and at the bottom of the page. But for a gun meant to be shot off hand I don't really see the need.

Ah, I see. It just says "TRADITIONAL STEEL" in the drop down. I didn't know that meant shotgun.

Go to the home page and choose the "Custom Features" tab and page down for pictures.

And I noticed the Polished and blue barrel option is not in the list but I bet you can add it.

I think that step on the barrel is a problem much like the rigby rib on the 77s

Hi Guys did get my 1874 Military carbine. Been so busy with working out of town and work on landscaping my house just haven’t got a chance to take her out and put a few down range. The carbine came out better then I expected Shiloh and company did a very good job. Now I need to get a sling for her so when Elk season rolls around I will be able to walk around the mountain with out worrying of dropping it. I did get a chance to load 50 500gr bullets. All I have is 1F Goex power witch I have done some load develop starting out with 55grs. and up to 62grs hopefully I can get a accurate load before the first of October.

A few years ago, I had a sling on my Chiappa 50-70 sharps carbine. I didn't drop the gun, I dropped my whole self! Coming down the shadow side of a mountain where the frost didn't really ever melt off. I slipped going down, and the Chiappa was between me and the ground. Slide maybe 2-3 feet, which was enough to leave some good divets into the wood of the stock.

Overall on the trip, I'm sure it woulda came out looking even worse had I not used a sling. But now I'm a bit wary of bringing my Shiloh carbine on any hunts that aren't fairly flat and level.

What’s the trick in reducing a picture to 256 or less. Like to show off my new carbine. Bpcrshooter62 does Steve Brooks make a hunting bullet mold or just competition molds. Lee’s 500 gr is what I am starting out with if it doesn’t work then I will consider purchasing a more expensive mold. Like to keep it around 450 to 500 grs. Have a 50-90 shiloh #3 that I had made in 2019 it shoots a 695gr. from boomer Humphrey’s it shoots pretty good but I don’t want to pack it around the mountain that’s why I ordered a carbine. Lighter and more handy.

I have the Rigby Flat on my polished round barrel 77 so it can be done and is done with nothing more than selecting the option on the web site.
