Windshield fluid and rubber gloves :D

interesting point Kenny, two blows between shots, five shot strings may not be enough. for Florida
I was wiping between shots but the accuracy was better with one fouler and five with the blow tube.

I'll try a little more on the tube, just to see.
I did notice a drop in accuracy when the barrel got warm/hot.
I actually use a bottle of water that I fitted to a tube to cool and clean every once in a while. point down, tube in breach, water through. then wipe.

Mike,
I have used RV antifreeze for winter wiping. And yes as Kurt said, I use nitrile gloves.
Also, I set up a small propane bottle mounted heater on the bench near my trigger hand. helps a lot

I am now loading with my fire formed brass and have opened up the case with the neck sizing die just enough to allow the bullet to seat. At this point I can just drop in the bullet. The target COAL that was measured earlier results in the end of the case right on a grease groove. I am using a Lyman taper crimp die to remove the bell from the brass, this seems to "lock" in the bullet but I can freely turn, wiggle, and pull up on the bullet within the gap of the grease groove. Options as I can think of:
  • if I want to seat with fire formed cases the bullet will just be loose due to the placement of the grease groove
  • seat the bullet deeper so the case mouth lands on the top band which makes the bullet firm in the case but my COAL will be short
  • currently I am sizing at .408", maybe .409" would be tighter
  • other option is to use the sizing die to tighten up the case just a bit and then use the bullet seating die to seat to the desired depth, this results in tight bullet

You shouldnt need crimp. In fact its better to have none, ( none is really easy to control) If you can seat your bullet and tip it over, give it a wiggle and the bullet doesnt fall out, your good! Your bullet should seat against the wad and the surface tension between the bullet/lube and the case wall should be enough "crimp", just straighten the bell and your good. Take a fired case, clean it by hand with a brush, then measure the inside dia. whatever that is, .408,.409, I would use that size of projectile. If this is for hunting I would either not put lube in the first groove or make sure that they are all covered. If for target, seat it out as far as possible.

I shoot a 40-65 mainly. When I load, sometimes air pushes the bullet up a little bit.
I put it back up the seater a couple times if needed. I then run it back into the backed off sizing die until it easily chambers. No crimp and still chambers.

My Shiloh has a tight chamber and won't tolerate any bell on the case mouth. This has worked for me.

I use a turret press which makes this pretty easy.
