My daughter got me a Teslong Borescope for Christmas. I wanted it to look at throat erosion on one of my magnum modern rifles. For the first time I tried it out on my Sharps, I definitely need the big bore adapter, but I will say, I am not sure if I am glad I ran it up the spout. Patches were coming out white.

So I’m guessing here….

The first photo looks like the most worrisome one to me…looks like some sort of crater in the barrel…

Photos 2 and 3 look like random lead fouling..

I could very easily be wrong….

Yeah, I don't have any idea what that is in the first picture, its about 13" forward of the chamber. This rifle pretty much lives a low humidity life since leaving the factory, so I don't think it's corrosion, I thoroughly clean after each session. Not going to stress over it, there is a fair amount of magnification in these photos, and the rifle is far more accurate than I will ever be.

All of it looks like corrosion to me. If you get a clean patch coming out of a stainless barrel it is clean. Not every time on a chrome moly barrel.

My thought is that all three photos show leading, although I'm not dead certain about photo 2. The shiny patch in the first photo looks like it's ON the surface rather than IN the steel, based on the shadowing. It looks real similar to photo 3. In photo 3, the material sticks out past the left edge of the land, not cut into it as a corrosion pit would be. That's the "tell" for me.

I got one of these scopes some months back, and found leading I didn't expect, also. It takes some time to figure out what you're seeing in the images.

Lead, 90% of what is in the pictures appears to be lead, and it seems to be refusing to budge, neither brush nor patch is getting it, just tiny piece by piece. This is concerning, as even though my average humidity here is somewhere between 17% and 25%, having anything that could harbor moisture is a bad thing. Patches were coming out white, after a brush with some copper scrubber wrapped around it, the next 4-5 patches weren't spiffy white.

In my opinion,
Those are flaws/"bubbles"/inclusions in the steel that were exposed during boring, rifling.

Most of it looks like lead to me. Try a tight patch with pure gum spirits of turpentine.

Been trying the turpentine, and little by little it seems to be coming out. I was surprised at the amount of machining marks, especially towards the muzzle, but once again, the rifle seems to be more accurate than I am. I think I need to stick to my Brook Creedmoor and Black Powder, and leave the others to my Ruger and Marlin. Wondering how Paper Patch Bullets would fare, I have tried a few in conjunction with my greasers thanks to a generous board member, but I may have to try a whole session once I get the lead out.

I like a little penetrating oil to soak for a few minutes and then I put one of those brass mesh pipe filters over a tight patch and run it through for lead removal.

I think not too long ago Mr. Bob W. Posted some pictures of a bore scope of a polished barrel from paper patches. Before and after however many rounds fired. No more machining marks. It was pretty neat to see the difference.

Thanks for getting me to spend some money. Just received a Teslong 36" and got the five extra mirrors. For $65 total it really works great.

They are a very good scope. I got one last fall and it's better than the Hawkeye I had, Mine is a WiFi that will reach the bottom of my 42" flintlock and it works with my Iphone. It records video of photo. I just looked they have gone up in price since I got mine. They used to sell from $40. to $70. they are well worth the money.
I bought a rifle and cleaning it I could never get a clean patch so I got this to have a look down the bore.
It took a while to get this cleaned out.
