Sling Swivel question

Hello:

Since I am on a steep learning curve, I would like to ask a question regarding Sling Swivels.

Other than "Packing in" a rifle to a camp site or hunting, is a sling used normally in regular or competition shooting?

Some of the competition rifle shooting I have done, uses a rifle sling to enhance the grip on the forend of the rifle. Is this technique used with a Sharps?

I have noticed the swivels are options on a Sporter #1, but not on a Business Rifle. A Saddle Rifle, but not the Quigley.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Texas Shooter,

I have the sling swivels on my saddle rifle but I just use them for carrying the rifle when hunting. The forward swivel is attached to the barrel 3" in front of the foreend.
