Well Steve you are a better shooter than I'll ever be but I will be so bold as to give you a bit of advice, never try out a new load or rifle or both at a match and now you know why.

Thanks for supper, it was great. Monte liked it too.

Well, actually the unproven rifle and load gave me some hope.
It was primarily my poor performance on the offhand target which limited my placement potential

I did have the Shiloh along, but the Highwall seemed to be fairly capable during practice on Thurs and Fri., and you can't turn an unproven rifle into a proven rifle if you don't give it a chance. I decided to save my limited supply of the lot of powder that works pretty well in the Shiloh.

Besides, it's always good to have an excuse handy

Careful my man, on this forum the Kings of Excuses lurk out in the open and are constantly circling.

Know this, it is not wise to excite those sharks into a feeding frenzy.

The mere mention of an excuse excites them dramatically.

You can say whatever you want about the Quigley as to whether it compares to long range shooting or is simply a family get together. I shoot both long range and gong matches and to me there's nothing like the Q. I hope there are some Forsyth Rifle Club members reading this and I would just like to say thank you for all the work that you guys put in and that the people in town put in to take care of all of the shooters that show up for the week of the Quigley. You need at least 12 painters and six four wheelers to paint, all the people that set up the tent headquarters and work behind the tables, the 12 scorekeepers, the 12 range officers, it's a tremendous task for the people that put it on yet they do a tremendous job of getting it done. If it wasn't for the Quigley I think our black powder cartridge matches would have died a long time ago. How many rifles have Shiloh made for Quigley shooters. How many rifles did Browning make for Quigley shooters and how many custom rifles were made by gunsmiths for Quigley shooters. The target matches by themseves would never been able to support those companies with the few shooters that are involved. My gratitude is to all you people in Forsyth that allow this to happen and I hope it can continue for a long time.

Well Said Bob. These are my feelings also.
And also Al is a fine man. I think he turned 92 this year and still comes and still shoots his .40-70 once in a while.

Thank you Quigley workers for putting up this fine shoot.

The first thing Al does every time he see's me is ask "How are those wonderful young ladies of yours doing? Did you bring them with? Are they shooting?
Doing fine Al, just fine, yes I did & yes they are.

I showed up to a long range shoot a few years back, was watching the next relay shoot, after the first two rounds I hollered down to the guy in the #1 spot, "Al, don't you have a spotter"?, Al's response,"Oh, I'll be fine Brian", I grabbed my spotting scope & spent the day spotting for Al.

I've never had so much fun spotting in my life, he's a non stop one liner, it never stops, Al is hilarious, but he's just being Al, not trying to be funny, it's just his response in the normal conversation. My face hurt at the end of the day after all the grinning, giggling & laughing

Al's one of a kind & as gentleman as they get

I spent some time talking to Al and Claudia at the Q this year, interviewed them in fact...a lot of the audio got washed out by wind noise, ATV motors, random people talking, so forth...

I'm a noob, that's true. The thing I see is that there is a lot of energy around the Quigley. A lot of people spend a lot of money to go there. In fact, many of them plan it as a vacation during the year. This was a down year with less than 500 shooters. What other match even has 1/4 of these numbers? We should do all we can to promote the Quigley. This is one of the main sources of new shooters getting into black powder cartridge rifle shooting.

Think about it....

JohnnyV, Not sure, no disrespect intended, you realize there are two Al's. The one you spoke to was Al Kajin not Al Lee. Just making sure we are on the same page. To my knowledge I do not believe Al Lee made an appearance this year; please correct me if I'm wrong. Al Lee is usually quite obvious when he is there as he is the only one allowed to drive his car/truck down the line and I did not see that.

He was here Paul. Driving his keep down the line checking on all and visiting a lot.

Thanks Dean, maybe we've found the reason for my poor score if I can't see a keep (just kidding).

You be well, Paul
