Breechblock Problem

Post by RCS58 »

I purchased a Farmingdale Robinson Sharps several years back in exceptional condition. This weekend I fired only a few rounds with friends and went home to clean her up. The breechblock is very hard to move and it won’t drop out of the frame. It will drop to loading position… I can remove the lever and pin … but it won’t drop out for cleaning. In fact without the pin and lever in place it won’t move at all.

Any suggestions on how to remove the block? Should I force it with wood and mallet? What would cause this?

Any advice or insight is appreciated.

Sounds like the sealing ring in the breech block is frozen up with black powder residue. Close the block and pour some M Pro 7 or equivalent down the muzzle. If you don’t have any black powder solvent, use water. Let it soak a few minutes, Then work the lever open and closed until things free up. Remove the block assembly and clean the block throughout completely.
