Inconsequental or not, for someone wanting a shootable original, the cost doesn't mean a whole lot. There were somewhere around 140,000 percussion rifles and carbines made, so not exactly "scarce." A lot of them were hard used and put up wet, but restorable if someone wants to take the time and money. It usually costs more to restore a Model A than you can buy a newer Ford for, yet a lot of people do it. The point is, some people might rather shoot an original than a brand new copy, no matter how good it is; and there is no dount that the Shiloh rifles are excellent. I have probably had a dozen of them over the years and still have 4 which I shoot all the time.

I hope Jay gives some feedback on what his gunsmith says.
