The cam tool body is made from 673 silicon manganese bronze, the round bearings are phosphorus bronze.

The 30° angle is interesting why couldn’t it about 3/4 inch up the shaft be bent to straight up to clear the scope and the hammer both?

The Sharps model should work on an 1877 - I believe the breechblock and receiver mortise are same dimensions as an 1874 but not having an 1877 handy I couldn’t know for sure. Can anyone chime in on this?

Yes, the shaft could be bent straight up to make a right handed camming tool for an 1874. However, the shaft is threaded in so determining the timing of where it needs to tighten up to be on the right side is challenging. I suppose the shaft could be threaded in first and tightened up and then perform the bend. I would want to use some heat to bend the shaft since it’s some type of alloy steel that has been heat treated. Bending without heat would probably snap the shaft - heat would need to be applied quickly and in the local area of the bend - I would have a concern if overheated and changing the temper at the threaded area where the threaded lever knob screws into the body. This is an area of high stress concentration and you don’t want the shaft bending or breaking at this point. To make the bends consistent, a bending jig with dowel pins would probably need to used. Oh, and unscrew the phenolic knob before heating - gooey blob of melted plastic is not desired. The knob handles used on these are sold in a few places - Morton Machine Works sells these and they are referred to as a “Gear Lever Handle”

The 77's are a touch narrower. My seater fits the 74 easier than my 77.
