I found the rifle I am looking for. it's an 1885 High Wall with a straight grip. If I could get a Hoke sight base for it, I would just use the staff from my Shiloh and be set. Since that's not likely, what Vernier tang sight do you recommend? I need plenty of windage, something easy to read, and accurate. I shot someone's Soule sight one year with no trouble. I am guessing no one makes a sight comparable to the Hoke?

I really like the MVA sights. The spring that locks the staff into battery is very strong and makes for a very positive lockup.

If your Shiloh has a Hoke sight on it , then yes you would be good to go by just moving the staff, altho that can be a problem. Probably best just to get another Hoke sight complete to put on your highwall, as you are used to the Hoke sights already.

AND, having tang sights (plural) that are interchangeable have saved me more than once at a match. Things seem to always fail during a match.

I would love to get another Hoke sight if I can find one.

I have a spare, new, Hoke sight base. But, I've forgotten if it is for an 1885 or a 1879. The hole spacing is ~1.110" on-center, if that will fit.
Also, have a friend who may have one for an 1885. I've ask, but it will take him a day or two to check his inventory.

The hole spacing on the 1885 tang sight base I have is 2.185" center to center. If you find one anywhere for a Hoke, I would love to buy it.

If you can't get one from Hoke. You might check with Steve Baldwin, think his bases will work with Kermits sight staffs.

The long range has 44 minutes

Not quite. They will fit but not a good fit. barrel on the Baldwin is larger. Hoke sight wont touch the spring.

This one only came with 20 min. Maybe 44 min was special order back then.

That would have saved a lot of money if it worked. Thanks for checking. I will call Baldwin when he is back in the office to ask about one of his sights. Do Baldwin sights have much windage adjustment available? That's one of the great strengths of the Hoke sight.
