WTB: Herter's #7 shell holder

Post by Brent »

I am looking for a #7 Herter's shell holder (.45-70 and similar). If anyone has one to sell, contact me at brentd@iastate.edu.

Thanks,
Brent

Brent,

I bought an adapter for my old Herters press at one of the local gun stores that allows one to use all the RCBS shell holders in the Herters press. The #14 RCBS shell holder is the one to use for all the .45 cal. Sharps cases. Just couldn't part with my old Herters Model Perfect press even though it is probably older than dirt. Traded it from a friend of mine about 35 years ago for a case of Budweiser.

Regards

Ramrod,
You definitely got the better end of that trade - finding the adapter is probably even more difficult than finding the shell holder. I see a lot of Hert'ers shell holders for sale out there, but the best source I know of, just happened to be out of #7s.

Brent,

Out of curiosity I just checked with Gun City here in Bismarck (701-223-2304), and they have the adapters for Herters presses in stock if you're interested in going that route. The price they quoted me was $19.95. As I mentioned these will allow one to use the RCBS shell holders in the Herters presses. The adapters do take up some of the working space between the loading ram and the die, but I have no trouble loading .45x2 7/8 shells with 535 Lyman postell bullets with it.

I don't know what Gun City's policy is re: mail order business, but if you absolutely can't find anything else in your area they would at least be an ace in the hole for you. Good luck.

Regards
