Gidday to you Gavin,

Will we be together in June?

Paul
[/quote]

... I'll be there Paul and hope to see you, Spot, Brian and a few more. Tickets, car and accomodation booked. Gary wont be with us this
year but I've another shooting buddy who's coming to join the fun. Not the cheapest of years to travel ( the rental vehicles are crazy  )
but we take our opportunities when they come. Looking forward to catching up and praying that LAX isnt the huge mess it was last June when
we landed. Man that was a taxing 24 hrs :(
.. see you soon.
Gavin.

It will be good to see you again and meet your friend. Gary will be missed, give him our best. You have told me some of the dollar amounts in the past and I'm afraid they would stop us dead in our tracks. As it is things continue to escalate for us as well but we'll stay at this as long as the bank manager says we can.

for now, be well,

Paul

On the subject of loads. Lets say you go through your normal low/high compression test (by adding more powder) with a specific bullet and dont find a suitable load? What is your next step?

Bpcr, thank you for bringing us back on topic.

It was suggested at the beginning of this thread that a change of primers might make a difference. Won’t work for me because I only shoot what I’ve got on hand. I use Olde E powder and tried Fg, 1.5 Fg, and FFG and found an improvement with 1.5 in my 45-70. I have a reasonable load at 200 yards and need to test at further distances. For me I think I’ll have better success by focusing on shooting mechanics and fouling control, which I’m still trying to improve. And after cataract surgery I hope I’ll have a much improved sight picture.

Hey Mike, have you had the surgery or is it coming up. You'll love it, I had mine done in 2011, couldn't be happier.

As to the question:
I start with a proven bullet for the task that matches the twist rate for length, barrel diameter and weight I want.
I then start with a primer that has worked before.
Chose the powder you have and want to work up a load for and then do as you say vary the weight/compression.
Let the target tell you if you're there.
If not change ONE thing at a time and start again. I would start with a different powder, then primer and lastly bullet.
Enjoy the journey.

Paul

I'm not sure, the next time you ask me to spot for you I'll try the other one. We'll see how that works for you.
