Howdy:
I have just discovered Creedmore Shooting. I have a Quigley repo and an 1873 Trapdoor . Both in 45/70. Could someone recommend a starting point for a load development and the type powder. Got plenty of Goex fffg.that i can swap for other grades.

My grease groove loads in .45-70 are either 63 gr of Swiss 1-1/2 Fg or 66 gr of Olde Eynsford 1-1/2 Fg behind the 540 gr Paul Jones “Creedmoor” bullet.

Compression sufficient so the bullet sits on a 0.0625” card wad with most of the first grease groove exposed for a slight contact fit into the chamber leadewhen inserted by thumb pressure. Bullet 20:1 lead:tin.

Be mindful of your twist, length of bullet will be a killer in a slow twist with a long bullet! The old govt round nose worked well enough for them well out beyond 1000yd.
