history question

Post by carlen ritenour »

I seem to remember that Billy Dixon used someone else's 50-90 to shoot the Indian from around 1 mile away. Does anyone know what style of gun he used; bull barrel, #1 heavy ect.. and was the gun a 74' or another model. If someone has that information I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Carlen

Mike Venturino's book on Buffalo Rifles mentions that he borrowed a 50/90 belonging to the store keeper.
Dixon's favourite Sharps rifle as used in later indian skirmishes was a 44/77

It about has to be an 1874 as the the 50-2.5 first came on the scene in 1872. Other than that there is no way to know the specifics without going through the trouble of seeing if the barkeeps name is listed in the factory papers and what the specifics are,and even that might sometimes be subject to scrutiny.
