White Lightning Bullet Lube

Post by omgb »

I once bought 10 lbs of White Lightning bullet lube. I found that for Summer shooting here in the southern desert, it performed better than any other product I had tried. Well, my 10 lbs is used up. Is that lube still made? If not, can anyone think of a good substitute?

When I lived in the Mojave Desert (PMD) I found DGL to work very well.

It’s a shame that White Lightning is lost to the shooting community.

It's not lost. Dan left a lot of hints on this forum what he used to make it.
One just needed to pay attention to what he was saying. :D

I agree with Kurt, DT left a lot of "hints" as to what he tried and what worked. You don't have to follow the exact recipe, just use the couple items that made White Lightening what is was. However, you have to dig deep to find them but, they are there. Good luck!

Cheers!

Hey, I found the recipe...Dan posted it!!

Yo Chicken Choker,

No problem, here's the recipe.

"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

There's some digging going on with this. Luckily, it ain't exactly the Oak Island treasure dig, little simpler than that.

A comment by Dan about soy wax

Now that the Desert Rhoades brought up soy wax, may I give ya'll a little hint?...if you want to pave your barrel's bore with asphalt, soy wax is the way to go. If ya really want to mess with one of your buddies, give him a 50/50 mix of soy wax a jojoba oil and tell him it's the cat's meow for blow-tubing.

Soy is a non-starter. It really doesnt do much good but it d

When I make my own lube I use bees wax, anhydrous lanolin and olive oil or animal fat. It’s ok, as good or better than most commercial lube but not like White Lightning was.

Bullshops NASA, and SPG tropic both respond well in hot conditions

I second Don McDowell's mention of SPG Tropic being a good hot weather lube (any weather actually). Here in the Az desert I've used SPG Tropic when the temp reaches 100 degrees with no lube softening issues.

As an interesting byproduct from the search for the WL recipe, I learned how to make camouflage soap LOL

Here's a question...how much was Dan charging for this lube back in 2015?

:D Well Dan said that his lube was eatable :D

I made up a batch from the hints he left behind before he deleted all of his posts on here and it worked just like his.
It smelled like his and yes it tasted like his :D but I cant say it was 100% what he used but it was costly for the ingredients.
I gave some away at the Quigley and here local to the Cowboy shooters for the top 3 finishers and it made a hit with them that they started asking for more. and I gave them what I had left because I don't use lube for my loads except for the .50 that just don't like a PP bullet and it shoots the Brooks 720 grain Creedmoor very well.
