Thanks Don. But why "no" to my second question if you want a dedicated PP rifle since your answer to my first question does not address whether the DD bullet is advantageous over a straight sided PP bullet from a tight chamber.

I haven't yet tried a DD in my Shiloh and the stars have to be aligned perfectly for me to hold 4" vertical for 5-shots at 200 yards. So I keep asking myself if it's my load or just shakey old me which I believe is the case. I also wonder how many original rifles were re-chambered to allow the use of greasers rather than learning how to shoot with PP.

If you can’t hold 4 inches vertical now then a tight chamber isn’t going to change that. I’ve been shooting the dual diameter bullets off and on for a quite awhile before they became the in thing. I can tell you with certainty tha a rifle might like them and it might not, and if it doesn’t ther is absolutely nothing you can do to change its minds.
Is it with Randy E about the trials and tribulations he went thru to get his tight chamber rifle to shooting the way he wanted it to

Apparently some people use lens cleaning tissue for PP.

Maybe there are some thinner ones out there but mine measured .0025 thick.

So I confirmed with my Starrett tenth reading micrometer (analog, not digital) - measured 10 different areas on a 3” x 3” square of Seth Cole 55W and each reading was pretty much the same - .0015” plus maybe a red frog hair more. It’s pretty consistent at .0015” - at least in that area of the roll.

Thankyou for posting the chart on thickness. I remember seeing this in the past, went looking for it this week and never did re-locate it. Will save it and print out now!

That chart confirmed my measurements. Imagine that :P

I have never patched a straight sided bullet to groove diameter, always patch always to bore. Only the dual diameter bullet gets patched to both .001 under groove and .0005 under bore.

The tight chamber mythos isn’t one I buy into.

I can bring to one’s attention the Pedersoli 5@200 match, the world record PP group for that match is a .446 525 gr Money bullet of my design. It actually comes in at 518 grs at 20-1. In 14.5-1 it’s about 513.7 to 514 grs. Very fat bullet and Thin Seth Cole 55w paper. Group was shot in 2008 1.336 inches.

The entire week many attempted to beat that group size, at the end of the competition it was the smallest group period. Beat all the GG boys soundly.

This rifle won the Creedmoor Scope national championship in 2006, and again in 2013. It is a 1-18 twist Shiloh 45-110. With Shiloh’s standard chamber, that’s all you need.

To add insult to injury that group was shot with Goex Express.

And to what Don said Ditto.

In 2018 I won my last NRA Scope National championship title in prone Midrange, top score at 600 yards day 1. Using a Paul Jones bullet made for my heavy Sharps the 25# model.

I know I am probably doing it wrong but it sure seems to work well for me.

This year at the Alliance Ne Long Range Match I Shot my personal best score with the DDPPE bullet that Arnie drew up for me while Jim and Arnie and myself discussed it via the forum. Ranges from 700-800-900-1000 yards
