I don't know if the parable of the blind pig applies here, but I'll take it for what its worth.
Had some ammo for my 30" barrel 45-90 I had loaded up a couple years ago, so I thought I'd get rid of them today.
after my first 4 rounds, I thought it was a waste, but decided to move over and try again.
I noticed I had a black felt marked w on some of the brass so I picked 5 out with the mark and tried again.
Just had to go measure the results after what I saw so by the time I got done screwing around, the wind had gotten a little squirrely so I just shot the last 7 in a group on the right. they were a mix of w and not and with the squirrelly wind I knew it wasn't gonna be close as the second.
After I got home I looked in my reloading book and saw that the "W" stood for loads with an under powder wad !!!!
Can't believe there would be that much difference Tho.

You conveniently neglected to record the distance from the muzzle to the target, which leads one to wonder if the wind wasn't the only squirrelly factor affecting the results?

The word "would" is prospective, not definitive. My life experiences indicate that people that dodge direct questions with, sort of, maybe, would, etc and either guilty, have a guilty conscience or don't want to admit they don't know. So, this time I am giving you 3 choices.

I havent been able to shoot with the heavy fog and rain we been having. Had a heavy snow fall last Thursday I could not see the trees at 200 yards. Been nice and warm in the upper 30's mostly but I can see well enough. Sun is in the forecast for Monday and I have the rounds for the .40-65 ready and some for the .44-90 bn.
You guys are making some tight groups and good load info. It would be good to see a bunch of hard holders join in and have some fun.

Well, I did some work on my old junky Ballard 22, so I figured I might as well take it to the range and make sure it still works before hauling it down to Phoenix next month for a day of 22 BPCR Target Rifle.

It was in the mid 30's today, but the cold, gusty breeze made it feel quite a bit colder. The gusts were messing with me, particularly on the first 10 shot group which measures 4.94 spread.
The second group was better, at 3.19 spread.

It would be nice to see what their at will groups are. Not just a random great group.
Mine seems to be in the 2 moa range (4") right now, but then i wasnt splitting hairs on my reloading process, but taking the easy eay out on reloading.
Gonna see what changing my reloading procedures does to my groups.

I shot a lot of groups for this ice age also that I did not post that I should have for what works and what don't.
But I was working for the string and not smutch for groups and my main interest has been the .38-50 because this is the rifle I'm working up to shoot at friendship so I have been spending more time with it.
The .38-50 Hepburn is shooting well but the .38-50 CPA has been a problem. I had this rifle build for the Grand Daughter to shoot with me at Friendship but she might have to use the Hep. She does better with the tang sights than the scope. Maybe by the time the season starts and my turn comes up with the eye doc I will be using the tangs again.
I'm about to pull the barrel off that rifle and look for a good place to have it rebored to the .44 caliber and I will chamber it for the .44-75 Ballard or or use Kelleys .44-70 reamer.
