I flunked the test

Post by From Along The Trail »

I started my project rifle during 2021. I was collecting parts and making a sighting system for my rifle. The parts i gathered were as if I was finding them from along the original Oregon trail.

So I found some lead at the neighbors trash pile. Unfortunately I used that first. It was probably soft lead.

I even made several bullet molds. That is a easy test to fail. I just tested bullets from those molds. The lead in all those bullets are too hard for shooting in BPCR rifles.

A year ago I did buy a Paul Jones mold. That greatly improved my shooting score. Like 180 percent. But the bullets I have cast in that mold are all too hard according to using the pencil test.

So I have failed the lead test. As in having a correct hardness of lead to begin with.

And I admit it

Store bought or at least known and trusted alloy save a lot of time and frustration.

If your scores improved 180%, maybe it's the right hardness!
