desert deuce wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 4:19 pm You are correct Johnny. I did not know, however, that the swab was .50 Cal until now and the swab itself with the 8x32 thread is what I am looking for.
Me too… And I had a hell of a time finding mops. They seem to go out of stock all over the place and so I jumped all over it after I talked to patch box and he had this idea about the chamber mop with little fittings that would allow you to use whatever kind of mop you could get. I like to change out my mops fairly frequently, after about every 25 rounds or so I put a new one on there. I have an idea that a 28 gauge shotgun mop would work pretty good too.

I ordered some .54 cal bore mops from October Country with 8-32 threads. I don’t know how they will work in a .45 cal straight wall chamber but I’ll find out. They had .50 cal mops as well with 8-32 threads.

Midsouth carries them too.

Source is what I needed to know. Pro-Shot has been contacted, no response yet. Does it seem anything for shotguns is a lot more expensive than something made for pistol or black powder?

I ordered some 50 and 54 caliber mops from October supply yesterday. At $3.97 each they’re pretty economical. Whichever one is the correct mop, I’ll probably just order 20 or 30 of them so I don’t run out in the future.

One other thing I discovered in Phoenix, is that the mops cleanup, pretty well, using regular dish soap, and a little bit of that OXY laundry stuff…

This place has 20/28 shotgun mops for 1.89 each. They are wool, not cotton.

I don’t think the wool absorbs as much moisture.

Ha, ha, funny. Got through to October Country.
They are getting many orders for chamber mops 50 & 54 caliber in 8x32 thread and find it curious.
I clued them in and found out the owner is a bpcr shooter and invited him to the Desert International, AFTER, I placed my order for chamber mops, 8-32 thread.

I’m one who uses 100% wool mops, not cotton. The only case separation I’ve experienced (recently) was due to the mop itself being worn down by much overuse. And, I’ll never do that ever again. My 2 cents worth.

why wool instead of cotton

Me personally, couldn’t get wool to absorb anything. I put a drop of wiping solution on top of my barrel and wiped it with a wool mop and all it did was move it around. To each his own….👍

Seems like everyone uses cotton bath towels right? They take the water off you. Not sure a wool towel would work very well. Have to admit I haven’t tried one though…

The thing I’ve noticed is that you need to change out your mop head every 25 rounds or so. That means keeping extra mop heads in your range box. I got some 50 cal muzzle loader mops from pro shot delivered and they’re just a wee bit smaller than the mops I got from Bryan. Have a feeling that the 54 cal muzzle loader mop is going to be perfect. Thanks to patchbox, I don’t care what thread pattern I get it in either.

Wool was the first thing I tried: it works, so I stayed with it.

Just got in my next two mops from Patchbox... Will have one in each case with appropriate mops for caliber of rifle. Here is the 8-ball with mop from Bryan (54 cal?, 8-32 thread), 9-ball with 50 cal pro shot mop (10-32 thread), and the 13-ball with 12 ga shotgun mop mounted just for GP.

These also double nicely as flag safeties when you're moving to and from the firing line.
