Who made this tang sight?

A shooting buddy of mine has the rear tang sight in the photos. Neither he nor I have any idea who made it. I’m guessing it’s a “one off” made by a good machinist. Can anyone identify the maker?

BTW, the eyecup locks the windage only. The small nut on the elevator screw locks vertical movement.

John King is a good guess but it's not him. His middle initial is "P". I've had a phone conversation with him recently. At 74 he's pretty much retired but does continue to accept some limited gunsmithing work.

I also posted the photos on the ASSRA forum. A guy with the handle of “nineteen76” provided the following. The machinist that made the sight is:

He sets up at most Gun Shows here in South Dakota selling various gunsights.
There was one listed on Gunbroker not too long ago but I cannot find the ad.
Here is one of his sights on a Wind River Hepburn that I sold a while back (Rifle and Tang Sight made in SD)

I ran a search on him & found he now lives at the following address with the same phone number. Other than it being shorter and with a slightly different style staff base the sight construction in the link above looks identical.

John King was actually a bad guess in my opinion. John King does wonderful work, and would never have built a sight that crude.

Marlinman no need to.be so critical. That sight was made long before cnc equipment while it lacks the polished refined look of any MVA sight it is far better than any Pedersoli you can find. Bobw

I see you figured out it was J Keller. I have two of his sights from back in the old days. I did have them converted to Soule sights but I still use the one on my .22 Sharps all the time. They have been very good sights. Raymond Hanson
