I believe .459 is the generally good bullet diameter to use in the Pedersoli rifles.

So far, it's what I've used, but I'm still working up a load.

My friend has a Pedersoli 45-70 and finally had to slug the barrel. It came out .455. Very tight.

Good morning, If I were you, I would give Dick Trenck a call, from what I understand he designed the Victory mold mfg'd. by Pedersoli, which is to fit every pedersoli rifle with un-matched accuracy. I'm sure he would be able to tell you the exact size of your barrel!! Hope this helps, Kirk.

varsity07840,
Kirk is correct, the victory mould is set up to cast .459 - .460 bullets. I believe that Dick Trenk's email is possibly dicktrenk@aol.com Its really important to have a bullet that matches the bore dimensions of your rifle. I took Kirks advice and got a .458 mould cut for my Shiloh 45/110 and it is superbly accurate.

Also remember what someone stated recently about Pedersoli barrels...

There is a slight taper from the throat to the muzzle... so slugging the bore at the muzzle might get you a slightly smaller diameter than if you slugged the throat.

Also, the throats are pretty short. Using an 1880 profile bullet, I have to seat it completely in the case to get the rounds to chamber.

When I get into casting, I probably will pick up the PGT mould from Victory moulds.

Matthew_Q et all,
I have one Pedersoli's John Bodine rolling blocks in 45-90 that has proven very accurate with the NEI 349c bullet. The mold I have drops these at .460 on the base bands. My rifle did not like the Pedersoli bullet as well as it likes the NEI. Just a little something more to experiment with!

LJ, who makes those bullets? Who makes the moulds? Who sells them?

I haven't heard of that bullet (yet). If I could get a few, I'd definitely try them in my rifle and see how they do. ;)

Ray, I just looked over there... Can't find a '349C' listed anywhere.

Click on the “NEI Handtools Online Catalog”, then on “Bullet mould pictures & parts numbers”.

Under "choose a bullet”, select ".458" & scroll down the various weights until it comes up.

I believe that it is around 530-540 grns in weight.

David and Ray,

I found it. Several other bullets in that area look good... the 348a and 349f (Paul Jones Creedmoor) look nice.

I'll consider this mold when I get ramped up to mold my own pills! ;)

FWIW

If you want a PJ Creedmore, buy it from Paul. His molds cast great!

Well, if I could find somewhere to buy some bullets cast with those moulds, I'd like to try them first... see what works best before I shell out the $$ for the moulds... ;)

Matthew,

I use a Paul Jones #45001 Creedmoor mould (among other of his moulds). If you would like, I'll send you a box of them to try the next time I cast if you will send me your mailing address.
