Shoot, get something started on the Central Florida Coast Rickd, get a .22 liner for your Shiloh, shoot reduced targets at 100, 200 & 300 yards for a .22 Creedmoor Match. Ditto .22 Silhouette out to 200 yards. I think you will find the .22 at 300 is very good practice for the bigger calibers at 1,000 yards.

Have the highwall built in 45-70 or 45-90 to tip the scales at about 14.5 pounds (#5 profile GM barrel) with a DT Designs Money Chamber get a good money bullet mould and start shooting Long Range Black Powder Target. (they make .22 liners for these too)

You already have the 40-65 to shoot silhouette and mid-range with and spend your time and treasure going to matches. When we first started shooting black three would go to one match and all 3 shoot one 40-65 rifle.
250 rounds of 40-65 Starline brass from Starline is a good value and lasts indefinitely when using black.

Don't let anybody fool you, participating in these types of matches is a lot of fun and you get to meet and shoot with some truly UNIQUE personna. and Dawsonville, Georgia, is just a short drive from you.

I think the #5 profile barrel is a good idea. My .45-90 has one.

Zack, when practicing at 300 with a .22 how are you spotting the holes? Or are you shooting with someone in the pits?

I have "heard" that you can see the hits on flat black painted steel but have not tried it.

Thanks Zack. I was thinking of steel. I might try that in the spring. I can occasionally see .22lr holes in papr at 200m but the light has to be just right. Steel would likely make a big difference.

Just loaded some 420 grain 40-65 and several different compressions of 365 40-65 from a mould I have never shot before .. Saturday am have a concealed weapons course at our range .. then a couple of hours to shoot my Shiloh .. before getting home for the kickoff of College Football!! Going to be a nice weekend. Thanks guys .. I'm good with a 38-55 and a 40-65 for now.

Ability to see .22 hits on flat black at 200m varies by the angle and amount of light, in my experience. At times, easy to see; at others, almost impossible. Some of the worst are when the sun is low in the sky over my shoulder as I face the target.
