By the way Gary, arthritis in shoulders preventing off hand shooting is only a problem if you shoot off hand.
As Paul Matthews demonstrated, shooting chickens is optional.

The private range I belong to(Springfield Benchrest Rifle Club)only goes out to 300yds.
Some of us meet up every couple of weeks, for an informal single shot rifle shoot. All shooting is from the bench.
Great way to spend the day

Interesting equipment list for sure. 45-70 for the win cheap on powder for greaser shooters. 40-65 might be even better choice if target games are your main interest. Bobw

Re: 45-70 or 45-90
The biggest thing to do now is get your rifle ordered soon, so you can get in it in production line. Order it now with a .45-70 and you can change your order easily to a .45-90 later if you wish. With a 2 year order time, best to get it ordered. You can still order your bullet mold if you want. They can use the same bullet. But best to borrow some bullets from other shooters to see which performs best in your chamber. I have one .45-70 that likes the Creedmoor and another that does better with the Postell. Go figure!

Re: 45-70 or 45-90
It still pretty much boils down to the type of shooting one is planning to do.
If silhouette, hunting and plinking in general, then a 40-65 would serve well.
If it's silhouette and a mix of target rifle , then a 45-70.'
If mostly target rifle and a smattering of silhouette then the 45-90.
Or just take the best of all worlds and go with a 44-77.

AND, most any of them will sling a rock, IF you hit the rock.
