I am having my 63 Shiloh Sharps carbine re-barreled to 54 caliber 16 lb bull barrel. For those casting their own bullets, will the ringtail bullets work in a lubrisizer or are there big issues with lubing the tail section where the Hahn tubes would be glued on. Secondly, I can not find any information from Lyman on a .542 or so sizing dye. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Emmett

I don't know anything about sizing those ringtail bullets but lee will make a sizer for any diameter you want for about $30.

Ring tails are stepped like a xmas tree. so you do not want to size them. I shoot the brooks bullet that is a straight wall. those I size. got a sizer from northeast trader. the sizer fits a std reloading press, and is a push thru. Lube after round is assembled.

Do you size to the smallest step or largest. or is yours a straight wall. never used the rapine. I only size my brooks to true them up. they come out 542 and i size 542.

I have a 63 rifle, a 63 carbine and a 62 Robinson, all Shilohs, and I shoot the standard Rapine 490 grain Christmas tree bullet in them. I do not size the bullets. After attaching the copy paper tube filled with FFG GOEX, I dip just the bullet in my lube.

Re: 54 caliber sizing
You can get sizing dies for a Lyman lubricator/sizer up to, I think, 0.580. But the problem is getting those sizing dies out of the machine once you are done with them. That can be a real issue! Lyman makes, and you can get if you ask them, a cap that fits on top of the push rod which will increase the diamete of the sizers that can be ejected but that is a solution for only some of the very large sizing dies.emito condito wrote:I am having my 63 Shiloh Sharps carbine re-barreled to 54 caliber 16 lb bull barrel. Just pan lube them, that's what I did when I had my 63 and it worked fine.
I had a .54 cal sizing die made for my Star sizer but with the tapered bands It made a heck of a mess.
