Non-firing replicas

Post by mightyaardvark »

Hello all.
I'm hoping that you guys can help me. I've spent the last week trying to track down a non-firing replica of the 1874 model sharps rifle for a low budget movie shooting in the UK. We don't have the requisite licenses to bee playing around with a live firer and frankly two grand is a bit steep for a weapon we're only using in one scene. Does anyone know where I should be looking?

Thanks for any help dudes (and dudettes)

You may wish to try ebay and look under sharps rifles.
Life is to short to shoot an ugly rifle.

I'd buy a real one, you'd enjoy shooting it after that movie scene.

I did a 'Yahoo search' on replica firearms and rec'd many hits.

http://www.thewebcollection.com/rifles.html is one such. It looks like most of the companies have a '59 Sharps for sale, maybe you could get it tweeked to look like a '74...or lok harder.

Hi, you could always buy a real one, use it for the film shoot, then sell it and get your money back. That way you wouldn't be out any money at all, just the time it could take to sell it.

mightyaardvark,

Do like the movie makers do here, rent that rifle, you may have to rent the owner to because I dought he'll want to let that rifle out of his sight  The BPCR club of Great Briton has several members who have Sharps rifles. The Brit who posts here every so often can be E-Mailed to get the infomation, he even has a rifle.

Remember guys, he said he's in the UK. He can't 'just buy one'. He'd have to jump through so many hoops, it would be ridiculous.

I can't really offer a solution, tho...

MightyAardvark,
Contact Bill Boerner at boernerfirearms@wavecable.com Bill has several replica guns he got from movie stock. One of these is a non moving 74 sharps. You can snail mail him at:
Boerner Firearms
4131 W. State Highway 16
Bremerton, Wa. 983122
Telephone
360-479-8056

When I say NON MOVING, the "gun" is a solid plastic casting with no moving parts. For your purpose, in the film and at a distance of more than 15 feet is looks very real.
