40-50 Sharps BN
Ever since I saw a cute little original sharps in this cartridge at a gun show last year, I've had a hankering to get something in that cartridge.
sitting in my reloading room staring at a Wickliffe action and a Badger 40-82 Win rechambered barrel got the gears grinding again.
Just when I cleaned my reloading room and put everything but my 45-2 7/8 and 42-85 away, I may be going to both ends the BP spectrum.
this danm disease is incurable I'm afraid.

Wait till you get more years into this game. I had to get a second wide bodied safe to lock everything up when I hit the gypsy wagon.

What a neat cartridge. I shot the Quigley with one one year. With 285 gn patches bullets. And did not feel underpinned at all even at the buff it held its own. My only draw back to it is I cannot see good enough to use it to its potential.
If you get one get ahold of me I can set you up with brass and stuff

Get on it. I have a friend in Mississippi that picked up a nearly unfired Shiloh Roughrider at the Tulsa gunshow last year in 40-70BN and he absolutely loves it. He has killed two hogs with it using a 385 grain greaser, both one shot kills, and hasn't recovered a bullet. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Re: 40-50 Sharps BN
I have one in a hunters rifle configuration with a 26" barrel and 18" twist. I mainly use it for scheutzen but I've used it for silhouette as well and have been very impressed with its accuracy and performance. Its short fat powder column makes load development a matter of picking between any combination because its shot anything I fed it and shot it well. (With respect to the 18" twist that is.) PPB's, GG's, 1F, 1.5F, and 2F. It all shot very well for me. Only thing I've hunted with it thus far has been ground squirrels and one or two marmots but I wouldn't hesitate to put up against something bigger.

Re: 40-50 Sharps BN
One of the best things I like about my 40-50SBN is the brass can be made from 40-65 or 45-70 brass that has gotten too short to use in the original chambering. Just cut them down to 1 11/16" and load them up with PP bullets. My 386 grain PP bullet is accurate to 800 yards. Have not had the oppurtunity to try it at longer range. Note; GG bullets do not work well if seated deeper then about 5/16".
Keep on hav'n fun!

Re: 40-50 Sharps BN
I bought one off GB a couple years ago. Came with a too heavy octagon barrel. Heavier than the std. heavy octagon. Was hoping for a nice woods rifle but its a bench gun. I keep looking for a half round std bbl for it but no luck. I don't have the coin to send it back for a rebarrel. If anyone has a 40 cal bbl I could shorten and rechamber I'd sure appreciate it.

I thought about that, but i dont do much (any) hunting so heavier barrel shouldnt matter. Is your's a Shiloh?
