Black Powder Ballistics

Post by MBW »

I had a chat with Col. Brett Boyd a few days ago ( he publishes "The Single Shot Exchange") and one of the things we got into was the consistency of black powder from lot to lot. He told me that one of the contributors to the magazine (sorry, can't remember who) is working on an extensive test of BP loads that will be published in the July (hopefully) or August issue. Should be good reading and good reference. Just thought I'd let you know as I'm sure this is of interest to a lot of us...

That's interesting as in the flintlock era they used to have what looked like a pistol that had a flap or cover at the end of a very short barrel connected to a scale and a pointer! You would fill the powder area and fire , and the flap would open and stop according to the power that the powder had from that lot ! Powder testers ! There were even repro's made 20years back the same way ! JAGG
